February MOOSletter

   February 2010 MOOsletter

Hello fellow Quilters!

I hope everyone is staying warm and not slip sliding away! February is time for red hearts, presidential birthdays, Mardi Gras and secrets. Gertie has come up with a mystery quilt to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Sunday February 14th, come to the shop at 12:30 for some stitchin’ fun. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing tools. Class is $15 and the Mystery Quilt Kit is $45. It’s such a big secret she has not told me a thing about the quilt. Have you ever known a cow with loose lips? I should say not (Indigent swish of tail)! On 2/13 we are having a Valentine’s Special, and that’s a secret too. So you just have to come in and see what Gertie has up her sleeve.

Our newest class is PAPER PIECING with Laverne Roy. It’s a simple wall hanging that says “I Love Quilting” only it is way cuter than that. The class will be two Fridays 2/5 & 12 at 1PM to 3:30PM. Bring sewing machines and basic sewing tools.

Saturday 2/13/10 from 2-3:30 come and get some fun time with hand embroidery. Dee Cook will show you how to assemble and hand stitch the February Heart Candle Mat. Everything is included in the kit just need to add you to the recipe for a real fun project.

Several ladies have asked to do the Jitter Bug Strip quilt. Sign-up and be at the shop at 10:00 2/17/10. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing tools. We have a few Cow Pies (2 ½”

Strips in a roll) in Batiks and 1930’s fabrics that will make the preparation step much easier. Class fee $5 and each participant must purchase the pattern book separately.

February 12th is Lincoln’s Birthday, so we have to celebrate that with something good to eat! Right! Then the next Friday 2/19 is

Mardi Gras, that’s all about eating too! Stop by to see what we have in store to for you.

Next month is St. Patrick’s Day celebration where everyone is Irish and everything is GREEN. Friday 2/26/10 at 10:00 AM Gertie has a lovely St. Pattie’s table runner that you can make and put it on display all next month. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing tools. I doubt if we have green beer, but you know we will have something green and tasty.

Quilted Cow University 102 continues. 2/6/10 10:30AM we will show how to use the rotary cutter and cut the sampler’s first set of blocks. Students will sew their strips together to make the Rail Fence Block. QCU 102 repeats again 2/9/10 at 6:30PM if you can’t make the Saturday session.

Quilted Cow University 103. 2/20/10 10:30AM more sampler blocks to cut and sew. QCU 103 repeats again 2/23/10 at 6:30PM if you can’t make the Saturday session.

Civil War BOM 10:00 2/13/10; Snow Sweet Bake Shop “BOM” meets 10:00 to 2PM 2/27/10.

The hand quilters are still meeting 6:30PM Wednesdays and 1:30-3PM Thursdays. They may stop with making one Log Cabin block during sessions.  Bev is still deciding that one. If you are interested in joining, call or stop by to sign up.

Those in the Thangles Buck-a-Block “BOM” are still going strong. Remember to bring in your finished block from last month to receive the February Block for a buck otherwise it will cost you $3.00.

We have the AccuQuilt GO and Studio cutter available for your cutting needs. We have dinosaurs, car, truck, circles (think of hundreds of berries you need for that appliqué). Stop by or call for details.

Whew! That’s all from the Herd at the Quilted Cow Emporium, your UDDER destination for all of your quilting needs. Stay tuned to the website (www.thequiltedcowemporium.com) and Moosletter.
