June 2010 MOOSletter
Dear Quilting Friends, June 2010
I can’t believe how quickly time gets away. You last heard from me back in February! Yikes. I had hoof (foot) surgery in February but I am all better now. Gertie’s husband Bill (he’s the cute guy with coveralls on most the time) has been having a rough time these last 3 months so we are praying that he is on the mend now. In May Gertie and I flew to Minnesota, I love saying Minnesota (Mini- sew-ta), to the Spring Quilt Market. Minneapolis is a lot larger city than either of us country girls has been in for a long time. We took the “light train” (did you know trains were judged by their weight?) from the airport and got off where we were told our hotel was located; just down the Mall on our right. We did not know that our hotel was on 13th street and we were on 5th. So here we are lugging, rolling, toting, however you want to say it, all of our luggage, purses, bags, etc. down 8 city blocks on a sunny day with the temperature in the 90’s I might add. Where’s the coolness of being so far north? We finally wheel into the hotel and the guy at the door asked if he could help us. Oh no, we were determined to take these bags all the way to our rooms. The gentleman at the desk was worried that we might pass out when he say us and guessed that we had trotted down the Mall to the hotel. He even ran to get us two bottles of cold water. Both our faces were flaming red, sweat rolling down into our eyes and leaving high water marks on our shirts, and we were huffing and puffing like a pregnant woman about to give birth. We saved ourselves $38 by walking and not taking a cab; shuttle would have been $16.00 each or the “light train” was less than $1.50. But we were so “countrified” that when the train pulled up we just got on. There’s no one on the train to take your money, as we were going through the different stations I was able to see some signs telling passengers to pre-buy their tickets from a machine. Yikes, we could have spent our first night in Minnesota as guests of their jail! Guess how we moved around town and got back to the airport. Yep, we took the cab. No more hoofing it for these two girls.
We have decided to be open on Monday’s again. I know, being a way from fabric and the fun people that work at the shop for two whole days can send some of you all into vapors, so come on by to buy every Monday.
At Market we saw patterns, notions, gadgets, rulers, and oh yah FABRIC. Our heads were twirling around… not like the Exorcist; this was in a good way. We have decided that we must get rid of some things to make way for the yummy new things. Also Carl says he doesn’t want to make more shelves for all that stuff we have ordered! Sometimes he can be such a wet blanket. We are putting patterns, books and fabric on sale. The sale will begin Monday June 21st and end Saturday July 3rd. Some things will be 10% off others up to 50% discounted. Bring your vans, pickups or rent a trailer... things are going to clear out quickly. So just like our Illinois’ state politicians say about Voting: come in early and often. It is to your advantage to buy now, “sew” even more beautiful fabrics, quilts, home décor, gadgets and inspiration can keep on coming to you.
Whew! That’s all from the Herd at the Quilted Cow Emporium, your UDDER destination for all of your quilting needs. Stay tuned to the website I hope Gertie got the classes loaded(www.thequiltedcowemporium.com) and Moosletter.
Please remember to support your local independent retailers.
