Moo News 8/2/2014


We have moved to our new location on the Square in Jacksonville.  We are open today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Stop by and see us on the East side of the square across from the Illinois Theater.

We will be having a Grand Opening in the near future. 

We would like to thank all our customers who visited us at the show and at the shop. We appreciate your support and the love of quilting.

QUILT RETREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Need you to call if you are interested in attending the RETREAT. 
Also we have a quilting retreat scheduled for the week of September 15.
It will again be at the Kinnona Church Retreat Center. You will need to bring your own sheets, pillows and blankets -- towels and etc along with flip flops for the shower or shower shoes.  The cost is $275 for full week or $55. dollars for individual nights.  We will start a list for this activity also.  I will limit retreat to 14 or 15 people.  Call and get your name on the list. You may also pay for this  -- we will keep track of the balance for you. We will have a lady on site to cook.
I will also have a commuters rate for $40 per day.  This means you come in the morning have breakfast with us and stay until night -- last year they left around 8 p.m or so.

Bev will be having a 101 Quilt Series Starting in September --- We will be making a Disappearing Nine Patch Window Pane Quilt.  Will be setting Dates -- will have an evening class on a Tuesday or Wednesday nights besides a day class --- We have 3 people signed up. -- will be six weeks.  Class fee is $10 per class plus fabric - book and if you need quilting supplies.  Please call the shop so we will have enough books.

Gertie is also having a UGLY FABRIC CHALLENGE --- ON THE 5th Saturday in August 30
You purchase a kit with two ugly fat quarters in it and you add your own fabric to make a wall
hanging.  On August 30 ---- These will be judged and see you wins.

--10 A.M. May 11th.  We are using up our scraps and stray fabrics and making useful quilts with them. I have added more tables for the new people.  Come and sew -- then we figure out how much fabric you have reclaimed.

We will be starting new Second Saturday BOM in  August ---
We will be having the second Saturday on the THIRD SATURDAY -- SINCE I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN THAT WEEK.  BRING IN YOUR UNDERGROUND QUILTS AND SHOW THEM OFF.  WE LIKE SEE YOUR PROJECTS. We will be having Eleanor Burns - Barns and Victory Quilts.   Please let us know if you are interested so we will have books in stock.    A reminder how this works is -- the first month you purchase the book and pay $5.00. for fabric for first block.  Next month you bring in your completed block and you get the fabric for the next month free.  You will have to purchase your sashing and borders fabric down the road. You may  stay and sew on your new  block when you come in on that Saturday. 

The Jersey Gals Quilt Guild's  next meeting is August 20.  This month we need a Snowball block which reflects your personality.  We will have you put your block into a container when you come to the shop and then we will try to figure out whose block is whose.  We will then make a quilt out of these for charity.   Also we would like you to make 2 - red - white and blue 12 1/2 block for a Quilt of Valor. Also would everyone please bring back your Blooming Rose project -- some people missed seeing them. Also we are to bring a brown bag lunch.

Many  - Many  - people talk about all the unfinished projects they have --- so we want to encourage everyone to get them completed by have you bring in a list of all your unfinished projects.  Bring in you machine and supplies to work on a project - We will meet once a month -- the next month  you complete a project we will mark it off your list and add your name in a drawing for a prize at the end of the year.  If you haven't completed a project you pay a $1 to the kitty. 
Finish or Scrap it.  We meet once a month the 3rd Tuesday --August is the 19th at 10 a.m.

The fourth month will be August 19,  starting the sampler quilt called, The Farmers Wife -- This quilt will have 112 - 6" square blocks.   We would like to have people interested in working on this BOM  to call so we can have books, and templates necessary.  This will  require completing 9 blocks per month to complete in 13 months.  Please let us know if you are interested so we will have books and kits.  Cost will be to purchase the book and any templates you wish -- then the kit will be $29.95 per month for 13 months.  You may sew here at the shop on the third Tuesday or pick up your block and sew at home.

On the second Saturday afternoon -- we will be having a hand sewing - embriodery - cross stitch - misc projects -- from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m. This will give you time to work on those projects you have started and would like to complete.   This will start July 12. Please call to hold a spot. any questions please call the shop.
Fabric which is cut from a bolt -- this fabric cannot be returned.
